Drinking water is very important, whether in winter or summer. At home, at work, we should always have water available to drink. However, as important as the amount of water we ingest the container through which we ingest such precious liquid: whether it is bought every day in the form of plastic bottles, or if we choose to reuse the same bottle, filling it with water from the tap.
The Brazilian site e-Cycle analyzed several scenarios to reach a conclusion: what is the best way to store water for drinking – in plastic, aluminum or stainless steel bottles?
In any case, the use of reusable bottles is already a very big step in the path of sustainability.
There are dozens of reusable plastic bottles on the market, and the main advantages are its light weight, low price and easy to carry everywhere.Still, some models carry BPA (bisphenol-A), a dangerous chemical in its composition, and can release toxins when heated, if that is the case.It is that some studies show that bottles filled with hot water release the chemical compound up to 55 times faster.
Another problem is the way we dispose of the bottle, which is often done in the wrong way, making the plastic and the microplastic into which it turns into dangerous pollutants for the environment.
Aluminum has different problems with plastic, although it is as light – or almost – as this.Even so, some models have an internal coating that may contain BPA, which raises questions identical to those already identified above.
Stainless Steel Bottles
These bottles are more durable than those of plastic or aluminum and do not carry the risk of contamination by chemical compounds, as with the latter. On the other hand, they are more hygienic and can be washed in the washing machine.
However, they warm up quickly, which does not make them ideas for cold drinks. They are also more expensive than plastic or aluminum.
