Sony Xperia Z5 Compact: the World’s Smallest Topmobil [TEST]

Review: mobile phones becomes larger and larger and therefore more difficult to operate with one hand. Sony has the solution with Sony Xperia Z5 Compact.

It requires a proper lap eventually to operate a modern smartphone with a hand. While cell phones screens just grows and grows, gets his fingers harder and harder to reach the screen’s extremes.

It has Sony realized, and they can, as one of the only manufacturers pride themselves to have a topmobil which is really compact.

Success is not in default.

Its predecessor, the Xperia Z3 Compact, has been overloaded with honors, among other things, the price as our site’ Årets Mobile ‘ and has been a fixture on URmobilpriser.dks monthly top 10 most coveted phones.

But now is the successor, Sony Xperia Z5 Compact, ready. Can the mon patterns the same good rates?

As a member of the Sony Z-series are the specifications in the top, and the latest version still contains the show’s trademark: a stylish, waterproof design. In addition, ambitious specifications, with among an octa-core processor on board, a fingerprint reader and a 23 megapixel camera.

Xperia Z5 promises to be a hit, and therefore happy to see our site on the new Japanese bonsaï-mobile.

Continue to plastic

Sony Z-series are usually synonymous with the very best that Sony can deliver, but in precisely in the Global Compact’s case, it doesn’t quite fit.

The more expensive Z5 and Z5 Premium sharing, for example, an aluminum border around the cell phone, while the frame in Xperia Z5 Compact vrager noble materials in favor of plastic. Just like in Xperia Z3 Compact.

In contrast to its predecessor is the plastic anything more minimalist designed, making it more neutral, even sexless, into the design. It is not immediately to spot, that here is a topmobil, it should then just be due to the glass back in matte glass.

The cheap impression alleviated nor of the fact that the phone is slightly heavier and thicker than last year.

I am, however, glad that Sony this time scrap the need for multiple waterproof flaps to save on micro-USB ports and connectors for nano-SIM and micro-SD short. Now micro-USB connector on the bottom, where it is easy to get to. This means at the same time, there is no longer need for ports to a magnetic dock.

Handy size

In everyday use, it’s dull first impression at the same time, quickly forgotten, for Sony Xperia Z5 Compact offers something that is missed in smartphone-country: a small neat format.

With the target of 127 x 65 x 8.9 mm is the noticeably narrower and lower than any other topmobil on the market today. And it makes it a pleasure to use.

Where most topmobiler today can be operated with one hand, it is not always straightforward to do so with a firm hand in everyday life. Do you have heavy Irma-bags or a tired young in one hand, it is reassuring that the second hand can safely maintain your phone.

Usability should be strengthened at the same time that Sony now implements a fingerprint reader in power button. Thus, the phone can be switched on and unlocking both in one and the same movement.

It is in my eyes the best possible location for a fingerprint reader, but it suffers by not being nearly as fast and safe as Apple’s and Huaweis solutions.

In roughly one out of five cases were just scanned one more time, before one’s fingerprint was recognized. And are your fingers at least damp or greasy, you must past the PIN-code the ritual.

Cod stupid buttons

On the other hand, delete what doesn’t make sense is the very volume buttons location. These have moved almost three centimeters down, making them near impossible to achieve without breaking the thumb totten of the led.

When this same time is both narrow and extremely thin, and only responds with a soft, lazy click, so it feels like a real decline in usefulness. Are you left-handed, however, much better buttons fall-in the midst of long action radius after resection.

Much of this can be excused with the Z5 Compact is IP68-approved. Translated from the engineering language means that the phone is dustproof and waterproof for at least half an hour, by at least a metre depth.

You will have the Z5 Compact with in the Capitol, however, you must think you about an extra time. With Z5-generation selects Sony for failing to guarantee water resistance under the warranty.

Snuff sensible screen and audio

On the audio and picture the front changes the Sony is not that great. The screen is still on 4.6 inches will is just large enough for your apps and your content will not be too small and crabbed.

The resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels is at the low end, but the individual pixels will however rarely noted unless you search for them.

Colors, contrast and white balance is right aligned, but Sony’s mania with bluish tintede screens remains to find. Fortunately, this can be put right inside the settings.

At the top and bottom of the front save two chutes on stereo speakers, which, like in Z3 Compact not really impresses, but acceptable for everyday use.

Audio file should not, however, have their favoritheadset too far away, if the sound is really to be entertaining. An interesting headset for Z5 series is the company’s MDR-NC31EM, which provides noise reduction in interaction with Z-mobiles and tablets.

A rap case

Xperia Z5 Compact is small on the outside, but stores still on one of the largest and most powerful processors on the market today: a Snapdragon 810 octa-core at 2.0 GHz.

It is a feisty size that can perform at the highest level, if otherwise its fierce heat development can we harness. For example, I experienced problems with Sony’s Xperia Z3 + who repeatedly had to ask for a respite when the mechanics kogede.

It happens, however, (almost) not in Z5 Compact. Long play sessions or benchmarks have still not managed to force the processor in an emergency track, but a simple 4 k video recording forced Z5 Compact to deal with one inflates.

The many forces receive mostly free rein, and it results in an excellent performance. Games, multitasking, browsing the net, well, everything takes place in a briskly artsandhealth.ie/xenical/ paced.

In relation to the market’s fastest phones that Samsung S6 and iPhone 6s, however, can occur waiting times when apps loaded, for the built-in storage on the 32 GB is not of the same lightning-fast caliber.

The battery itself has also been increased to match the growly machinery. But a little boost of 4% is, unfortunately, not quite enough to achieve the same glorious results as its predecessor. Where Z3 Compact routinely performed two days on a charge, you should probably rather expect a one and a half days of uptime. So good-without being flashy.

Sony improves at the same time, the operating time with a highly effective Stamina mode that extends the standby time by holding down background processes to a minimum.

When the need to refuel, Z5 Compact prepared, because it supports Quick Charge 2.0. Sony promises that there can even be recharged enough splash in 10 minutes over five hours of use. The allegation is probably just optimistic enough, because with the included charger the gauge showed 28% after 30 minutes of charging.

A half hour later rounded mobile 60%, which ranks to about a day’s use. A full charge took place on a total of two hours and five minutes.

On the network front is the Z5 is equipped with 2 g, 3 g and 4 g antennas, the latter of which supports up to 300 mbps. Plastic construction has its advantages, here for the connection to the fastest frequencies was both fast and reliable.

The same Sony-software

With mobile follows Google’s Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, and not the latest version of Android from the search giant. Sony, however, is legally excused, given that Android hardly has been published to the Google 6.0 own phones yet. Sony’s support at the same time confirms that an update to the latest Android is on the stairs.

With Lollipop 5.1 to control the fun is still an enjoyable Z5 Compact and competent size.

Sony does not differ much from Google’s basic recipe, where Material Design is the mantra with its flat and geometric look.

The Japanese company, however, retains a slightly unfortunate tendency to overload the interface with heavy widgets that advertise for Sony’s eco-system. An understandable approach, now that Sony embraces a wide entertainment universe from PlayStation to music and filmstreaming. There are many deals, but I now see that you as a user at any time if given the choice of which apps you want to fill up on the phone.

Sony includes continued small intelligent solutions that make the phone useful in everyday life. I remain a fan of the so-called ‘ small apps ‘ which is activated under the multitasking menu. With these you can URf.eks get a mini version of mail, browser, music player or a calculator to hover over the app you use.

Another practical feature app is lifelog acting digital logbook and keeps track of all the day’s activities, from today’s run, on time spent surfing the mobile browser.

Pixels for all money

On the back of the Xperia Z5 Compact promises a big, black optics about strong camera qualities.Qualities that underpinned by an impressive Engineering magazine.

The camera of Xperia Z5 is lit to accommodate 23 megapixels, but in reality hides Z5 series on a sensor at 25 megapixels, which provides 23 or 20 megapixels, depending on whether it is cropped in 4:3 or 16:9 format. It’s the same trick as Nokia at the time took advantage of in camera phone Lumia 1020 – and just like back then provides it to there hives with maximum detail out of the optics.

The actual lens is bright with f/2.0 lens, and at the same time, more than ever, with a wide-angle focal length is roughly equivalent to 24 mm lens. To last is the sensor itself is about 50% greater than in competing topkameraer as Samsung’s S6 and Apple’s iPhone 6S, which bodes well for the picture quality.

It all sounds enticing on paper but the infuriating conclusion is that Sony’s wonder camera fail to live up to what they are promising specifications promise.

The results are marked by an aggressive after treatment that they receive many pixels to drown in the weird artifacts. It does not mean that the images are not detailed, but the towering just not over what the best mobiles with 12 or 16 megapixels offers.

It is perhaps for the same reason that Sony uses the default setting of 8 megapixels, where the worst weakness is no longer to sight.

With a larger sensor and a bright optics are more sensitive to Z5 Compact focus error. Heldigivis is auto focus improved substantially so that it, in theory, can focus on just 0.03 seconds. In practice, the focus often takes place nowhere near as tjept, for even in ordinary indoor lighting to the pump focus some times back and forth before the focus point captured.

Z5 Compact Framework also does not always spot in terms of colors and contrast, especially when surroundings are dark. Here often perform some fun color palettes which unfortunately is not always natural.

On the video front is again at the forefront with Sony 4 k mode, which, together with advanced microphone accessories should be able to give nice results.

Here is, however, no optical stabilization, but Sony’s digital stabilization does a respectable job of removing caffeine from my quivering trembling hands.

Finally, have front camera also got a boost from 2 to 5 megapixels pixels. And the results are here in a class of its predecessor.

A slight disappointment

Sony created a sure hit with its compact flagship Xperia Z3 Compact, and which should not, in essence, does not change much, before a new success will be in the House.

Sony has even improved here and there – the performance is among the top, camera is good without being great, while details such as a waterproof USB port, a fingerprint reader and double up on the storage space will appeal to most.

Unfortunately, some noticeable deterioration sneaked into the newest Compact-generation: the price is screwed up with a thousand crowns, the design is not worthy of the flagship and is now less waterproof, battery is lower while the buttons are miserable placed. List of unfortunate developments is unfortunately long.

Z5 Compact is still certainly worth considering, because it continues to have a unique place in a mobile market that have long since dropped those who wants a quality mobile in a neat format.

We therefore lands on four and a half star and ending with a prayer to Sony about to rediscover the virtues that made its predecessor so amazing.
