Finance This: Codeybot, a Robot That Teaches Programming for All

Creation is the Makeblock, robotics company based in California that has an open source platform for sharing building ideas. Its products were more geared for those who already had some idea of ??how to program, but the approach is different with Codeybot.

Despite being directed to people aged 6-60 years, it is clear that the Codeybot is more geared to the younger crowd, for its intuitive interface and fun goals to encourage children to play.

The video project makes clear this approach, with children playing and laughing with Codybot. As shown below, the Codybot is controlled by a tablet with a simple interface that teaches small notions codes. For the company, it is important to learn this approach during play.

It is very interesting the way they have managed to combine the code learning with the fun of playing with a robot. The program is taught by a software called mBlocky, which works much like the Scratch from MIT and is based on Google Blockly. Several actions can be threaded through blocks, which are read by the software and converted into actions.

As the Codeybot Work?

First, it is important to say that all the code is done by this mBlocky, iPad app compatible with iPad 2 or later and iPad mini 4, all in version 7.1 or higher iOS. Already Codeybot application is responsible for controlling the little robot, available for iOS.

And Android? If the campaign reach US $ 150 000 (so far are more than $ 125,000 and there are still 36 days to the end), they promise to develop an app for the Google platform. To program, however, users may only use iOS, since mBlocky is only available for that platform.

The “screen” of Codeybot is composed of 19 × 13 blue LEDs that can be configured to display the design that you want, either a heart or a funny face. It is equipped with two lighted wheels and a motor, which keeps the balanced and moving along with the gyro sensor.

Inside, there is a Wi-Fi card 2.4GHz to connect to the application, where everything happens. The user connects the Codeybot with iPhone or iPad and you can control it with the joystick in the application or by voice commands. You can also do it playing music or dancing one of his five preprogrammed dances.

The distance control goes up to 30 meters (without barriers). It is recommended that you use the Codeybot indoors, but it works on all hard surfaces, except carpet or very rocky.

In the battle mode, which can be combined with a laser LED to head Codeybot, two different users can start a mini-game to see who wins. This equipment is sold separately (another $ 20) and simulates laser shots to destroy the opponent.

The little robot also has a stereo speaker to repeat funny voices, and options to change the light color of the wheels or even to draw a funny face in the “face” of Codeybot. It is not the application premier-pharmacy.com/product/celexa/ itself, however, where all learning can happen.

Without mBlocky the Codeybot would be a common little robot. With the support of this platform, kids can resolve to do something more with the device and program it to do specific sections or use them to move some object. Will the user’s creativity.

Learning to Program Important?

In fact, the Codeybot may have even more appeal to also serve in fact as a toy, but its scope may be much smaller, both the available codes application only for iOS (the BBC can be accessed by the web), as the price of $ 129.

But it is a good attempt, which has won 764 people on Kickstarter and spent a quarter of its goal of $ 100,000. As a company already known in robotics and distribution of codes, Makeblock argues that learning to program prepares children for the future.

And along the project page on Kickstarter, they cite quotes from great minds of technology that support programming. “Everyone in this country should learn how to program a computer, a programming language, because it teaches you to think,” said Steve Jobs.

While these arguments are debatable (not everyone likes or needs to be a programmer), the program encourages logical thinking and can help people solve problems, the logic of breaking them into a sequence of smaller and more manageable problems.

Why is it legal? Because Codeybot gets all this ideology that learning code is important for children and turns into a friendly robot that is also easy to control. Its various features just make the joke (or learning) more interesting.

Why is it innovative? It is not exactly innovative. Alternatives like micro: bit, BBC, already aim to teach codes for children. The difference is that the Codeybot does so with a robot that looks more like a toy, and that’s why it deserves attention.

Why is cutting edge? With iOS and a simple programming interface, Codeybot takes the game to a more serious level, and in a way that is still appealing and fun. It is an interesting project.

Worth the investment? With $ 129 in freight cheaper robot and $ 33 for Brazil … depends. It’s a very cool project if you have money to spend on a toy as sophisticated, but it can bring interesting results. The price is definitely prohibitive, but the idea is cool.
