Android Apps Overview: Part 1

Twitdroid, AccuWeather and AK Notepad
The Android Market is already installed on the G1 from T-Mobile . Simply click on the icon and the programs can be accessed via “Applications”, “Games” (Games) or directly via the search (“Search”). Then select the desired software, click “Install” and voilá, the download will start automatically. Now start the program (drag the action bar at the top of the screen, click on the download) and have fun. The program is definitely in the main menu, if you press the icon longer, so it can also be dragged to the desktop.
Twitter is micro-blogging. And so you do not miss out on the Google G1 its tweets, there are a variety of Twitter apps.

Starting Twitroid
After the installation, the Twitter users just have to register their Twitter account and password and see, all tweets are already admired. Further settings are not necessary.

Actually like the original, Twitdroid is very good to use. By clicking on the links in the tweets, the browser is called, by means of the arrow on the right side of the tweet you can call the known tweet options: “Reply”, “Show Profile”, “Favorite” to mark the Tweet as its favorite, “Retweet” to tweet the tweet itself, “Send Direct Message” to tweeter the tweeter or “Cancel” to get out of the menu again. In the bottom line, you can write your own tweets, retwee, go back, or view the “Direct Messages”. If you want to tweet, you can either add a photo or shoot a photo with the camera or the GPS position to the tweet.

If you press the menu button of the G1, the functions “Search”, “Buzz” “Settings” (“Settings” can be made very detailed), “Faves” for the Favorites and “Exit” are available for terminating the program. In addition to the many possibilities the Twitdroid offers is also the daily handling very simple and clear. This makes Twitter even more fun.

A very good implementation of Twitter for the G1-here the makers of the free Twitdroid have done all the effort and are rewarded in the Android Market with 4 out of 5 stars.

AccuWeather Check
the current weather times quickly on the Internet-without looking out the window, that has already something. The weather app is standard on every iPhone or iPod touch to find, with the G1, the user has the free choice to get his desired weather on the G1.

Starting AccuWeather
First of all you have to select the language, then AccuWeather tries to determine the current location based on GPS data or mobile data, but you can also define up to two other places where you can query the weather. Of course this may be a little, but these three places are enough for me.

In the header you can view the current weather, a prediction for the next few days, a satellite map with high and low tides, or you can use Google Maps and an layer to access the weather from many other locations around the world. The data from have proven to be quite realistic, so you can trust the app and can leave the house without umbrella in the morning. By pressing the G1 menu button, additional settings can be accessed, so you can define new locations, the units (whether degrees Celcius or Fahrenheit), the language, or the frequency of the update.

With AccuWeather there is a very good weather app for the G1, perhaps not with the finesse of the weather app of the iPhone, but with much more information. And the weather layers on the Google Maps map are also a nice feature. The app is available for free on the Android Market and has 4 out of 5 stars.

AK Notepad
With the hardware keyboard and the possibility to apply just copy and paste is the Google G1 the iPhone already several lengths ahead. What’s better then a simple notepad to have a notepad on the Android G1?

AK Notepad start
AK Note, press the menu button of the G1 and you can create a note. It does not get any faster. Since a large number of notes can be created, it is also possible to assign a different title to each note, and even to remember it at the time of the request

Quickly typed a text, then typed a finger on the text field, and the painfully missing commands “Select”, “Cut”, “Copy” and “Paste” can already be used. Nice and simple. If you are in the main note view, you can also delete the notes, send them by e-mail or SMS, or export them to a txt file. The settings menu also offers some options for “pimping” your AK Notepad, according to

With AK Notepad, there is a small and fine app to save notes, shopping lists or just copyrights, and then export them, either as SMS, e-mail or as a txt-file. Especially nice I find the possibility to be reminded by an alarm at a certain time to a note-fine and free of charge, 4 of 5 stars in the Android Market.
